What is your history in athletics?
Growing up for me was all about competitive athletics. My brother Dave is only one year younger than me, and we played everything together from a young age. I was the QB, he was a wide receiver. I was a pitcher and he was a catcher. We always had someone to play and practice with. I played football, basketball, and baseball in high school.
I went to college at Washington and Lee, starting at quarterback for 2 years, and at shortstop for 4 years. I was fortunate to be able to get a great education at W&L and also play 2 sports that I loved.
Now I play a lot of golf and work out on a regular basis. And SWORD helps me in both.
What is your athletic highlight?
I’d have to pick two here. The first was our homecoming game my junior year in college where we beat a heavily favored team and I threw for over 300 yards. The second was about 15 years ago- I made my first and only hole-in-one playing in a pro-am event with Gary Player as our pro. And my Dad got to witness it.
What is your business background?
I spent about 30 years working for big consumer brand companies- Pepsi, Diageo, and Brown-Forman. I was able to work on and contribute to the growth of some great brands over the years- Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Ocean Spray, Jose Cuervo, Smirnoff, and Southern Comfort to name a few. One of the things I am most proud of was building a top-notch digital team at Brown-Forman, hiring a lot of great talent and significantly improving the digital performance of our brands.
How did you join the Sword team and what excites you about the Sword journey so far?
A friend of mine saw Shawn present at an entrepreneurial event in Lexington, KY and suggested that I get in touch with him. Shawn and I hit it off from the beginning and shared a similar vision of what Sword could become. I’m excited to bring my strategy and marketing expertise to the Sword business. I think we have an amazing future ahead of us, and I’m thrilled to be on the journey with Shawn, Scott, and the rest of our team.
